Project Overview
Transferring an image of a symbol features three hares or rabbits chasing each other in a circle. For this three hares motif, each of the ears is shared by two hares, so that only three ears are shown. The first appearance of this motif is in the cave temples in China, dated to the Sui dynasty (6th to 7th centuries). It has been a symbol that appear in many region and religious. It has been used a metaphor of the repeating cycle of life, death and rebirth.
Process
Using the provided grasshopper template prepare the image for laser cutting.
Run the laser cutter to create the printing stencil.
Wash the stencil to make sure there is no residua.
Layer stencil on top of dish with autoclaved tool.
Flipping brush against a glass rod to apply e.coli mixture to the stencil.
Remove stencil after two days of growing.
Additional exploration:
Autoclaved eucalyptus leaves and carefully lay it on top of growing.
With a new dish, lay leaves on top and using brush to apply e.coli.
Result:
E.coli will not transfer to eucalyptus leaves and only grow around the leaves possibly due to eucalyptus is naturally antimicrobial.
