Illusory Specimens

Karina Ye, Illustration, 2023

This work illustrates the fantasy and mysterious sences at night that happened in a sureal world. In the same time, it represents the unabiding life of these fluorescent specimens, which indicates with my thinking of the nature and sustainability of the bio-mediums.

I tried different tools and methods of painting on the ager plates. The first test was the Jungles Eye, hand drawing by using the toothpicks, but water on the left side smudged the image a little bit. Then I drew my first illustration in Rhino and printed with pink and green fluorescent cells. The color didn’t show up completely. In the end, I chose tree stem as a stamper and loop tool for the flowers drawing. And also I made another butterfly pictures with Rhino, printed on a charcoal agar plates.
